Why we need to take notes?

As I am a student I write a dozen of notes. Taking notes is an important part of education. Through this students learn how to extract important information from a huge stream of knowledge which is being delivered throughout a lecture. Besides, notes are irreplaceable during an exam preparation due to the fact, that reading them take less time than a book. However, in order to know more specific information it’s better to read book rather than your notes.
